The Top Ten - week ending 31 March 2018

Happy Easter, my fellow loungers!

Yes, with the coming of Spring we are granted a long weekend. Hopefully, wherever you are, the weather has cooperated and brought lots of sun and warm weather. We're still feeling a chill here, despite the sunshine.

Enough about the weather, since we all know it continues to get better as the days go on. Let's talk music! We have a new number one!!!! I'm excited about this since I really love this song AND the artist. They are a wonderful example of the expanding subgenre of hip hop, blended with jazz sampling, chilled loops, spoken word, and electronica - otherwise known as chillhop or jazzhop. Of course, I'm talking about Saib. and their great track Archipelago

This is not to say that our second position artist, Sambox, is any less exceptional an artist. He is a favourite around the station and the track, Meeting Love, from his latest album is certainly no disappointment.....which leads us to the number three artist - Michael E & Jirka. Michael has been a major artist in the chillout genre. His work is well respected by his peers and fans alike. His journey this time around take on some World music influences, accompanied by a protege, Jirka.

Needless to say, an impressive top three, if I do say so myself!

But that's not all, as the artists taking up the rest of the chart are no slouches themselves - Vladi StreckerWeathertunes, Stephanie Sante, Phigroa, and Sade!!!!

Added to the this, we have a new track from the multi-talented Alex Cortiz bubbling under this week. From house to chill, he excels in all electronic genres. Added to the station's rotation is the opening track from his new album Going Deeper, The Wondrous World of 6 AM.

All in all, some great new music, mixed in with the usual roster of jazz and chill artists. Thank you so much for tuning in.

Alright....the chart....here we go!

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 25 March 2018

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers!

Has Spring sprung in your corner of the world? It appears to be coming in kicking and screaming in North America, as many places shoveled snow on the 20th, the first day of Spring.

Toronto has dodged that bullet, but still experiencing colder than normal temperatures.

Patience everyone! We shall soon have our moment to lounge in the sunshine. I have my Bose Bluetooth speaker charged and ready for patio use, as the missus begins thinking about her garden plans. Lots of work, made easier when accompanied by the sounds of This is Lounge.

Congrats this week to Sambox, as he continues to reign supreme atop of the chart. The cool, downtempo chillhop sound of Saib. moves up to number two, and Michael e & Jirka 'slides into third'. (Sorry for the unintentional baseball reference….must be Spring Fever!)

Fans of Stephanie Sante, have no fear. She may have dropped a little in the charts, but her rotation on the station still remains high, as does Vladi Strecker and Weathertunes. Keep listening.

A good man is hard to keep down, as station favorite Phigroa jumps into the mix from Bubbling Under with his nod to myself and the station and the beautiful city here, A Night in Toronto.

Speaking of Bubbling Under, if you’ve been listening closely, you would have noticed a new Sade song – Flower of the Universe. Her first new song in something like 14 years, it comes from the soundtrack to the new Disney film, A Wrinkle in Time. Welcome back, Sade! Let’s hope there’s more to come.

Also new this week, courtesy of DJ Maretimo’s Manifold Records, comes a new track from Jazzy James Jr. called Quartier Latin, the Slow Gasolina Mix. If you’re familiar with Manifold’s roster, then you know the level of musicianship here. A beautiful track.

As always, if you like what you hear, head on over to the station website and cast a vote. It only takes a minute and you get to play a part in the programming as you watch your vote help move your fave up the chart.

Don’t forget to support your faves through purchases from their Bandcamp page, or through iTunes, or Beatport, or any of the other legal download stores. Help keep the music alive.

Thanks for your support of this station. Internet radio is very competitive, along with the other streaming services. I am very appreciative of you choosing us, for a few minutes or a few hours. We’re not a streaming playlist that will eventually end. We’re on the air 24/7, in most parts of the world. Thanks for listening. Thanks for the support.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 17 March 2018

Hello fellow loungers! Saturday has once again come around.

As we all prepare for the Spring, thinking of the milder weather, it's nice to know that This is Lounge is here whenever you need us. With alternatives like Mixcloud and Spotify mixes taking up so much of your limited listening time, it's nice to be able to switch us on in iTunes or your favorite player and listen for as long as you want uninterrupted.

Thank you so much for your support and kind words in the Comments section of the website.

Congratulations are in order this week, as Sambox leapfrogs onto the top of the chart with Meeting Love from his newest release, Fashion Jazz. This, of course, knocks Stephanie Sante's Afterglow into second, with Saib. jumping into third.

Nice to see Vladi Strecker and Michael e & Jirka making some strong headway up, thanks to your votes.

Let's take a look at how we stand this week, shall we?

The Top Ten - week ending 10 March 2018

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers!

We are now well into March and the anticipation of Spring, which officially arrives in ten days. If are are living somewhere with Daylight Savings Time, we here in Toronto turn ours ahead tonight. Waking up to daylight will be inspiring. The buds on the trees will soon start sprouting as the temperature rises.

Like most of you, I can't wait to be doffing the sweater and enjoying the sunny outdoors with food, friends, and drink, along with some chilling tunes. This is Lounge is the soundtrack to that beach house vibe. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

As we approach that first scent of Spring, congrats to Stephanie Sante for holding her spot atop the chart again this week. Afterglow has a vibe perfect for warmer weather. Surprising Mittens slides into number two. Congrats to them! Coming into third, is Velvet Dreamer.

Others like Sambox, Saib., Vladi Strecker, and Michael e & Jirka are slowly working their way up, amidst a constant battle for supremacy. Between your votes and ours here at the station, we all control their destinies.

This week sees Sky.High make the leap from Bubbling Under. A welcome addition that I'm sure you will, well.....welcome!

Thanks for your comments. They are so supportive and wonderful. Don't forget to support the artists, and if you feel the need, "tip the DJ' with a click of the Donation button in the header of our website. It certainly helps offset some of the costs.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 3 March 2018

Happy Saturday!

Well, we "dodged a bullet" here this week with the threat of a snowstorm that was a non-event, thankfully. Rome wasn't so lucky, as they became a victim of Mother Nature's work this week, being hit with a few centimeters of the white stuff. I understand England and Northern Europe were shovelling out for a while, as well.

Not to worry, it shall all be melted in no time as we slowly get a little warmer in the Northern Hemisphere. With Spring on everyone's mind and the preparations around the house and garden for the coming season, I always enjoy the soundtrack of calming music to work to. It makes things go a whole lot smoother, don't you think?

This week on the Top Ten, we have a beautiful new number one from a beautiful lady - Stephanie Sante's Afterglow finally reaches the peak. Congrats Stephanie! Followed behind are Velvet Dreamer, and Weathertunes as they relinquish the top spot.

Nice to see Sambox and Vladi Strecker move up the chart. As Naoki Kenji slips out of the Top Ten, we see Michael e & Jirka's beautiful Mantra slide into that empty space.

Of course, all of these tracks and more are available from the artist's website, Bandcamp or Soundcloud page, as well as iTunes or a favourite digital download store. Please keep the music alive by supporting these artists.

Thank you for supporting the station. It is truly appreciated.

Stay chilled.
