The Top Ten - week ending 28 October 2017

The chill is in the air!

The chill is on the airwaves!

Welcome to the This is Lounge Top Ten!

As the temperature drops, and the clouds roll in, it's nice to be able to escape to that beach house in your mind, that "happy place" where stress is non-existent, and life is good. And in that beach house in your mind, the gentle waves crashing on the shore segue into the smooth sounds of a Fender Rhodes piano, or a gentle drum beat. When that happens, you know that your in the zone - that moment of pleasure and bliss.

You're tuned into This is Lounge.

Now that you're in the right frame of mind, let's look at what's dominating the playlist this week.....

With the surprising change in the weather comes a surprising change in the chart. Polished Chrome has made a leap into number one this week, bumping Christopher Goze into the second spot. Chillhop artist, .anxious., follows up in third. A wonderful triumvirate, if I do say so.

This week also sees the sounds of chillout artist Citrus Jam make the jump from Bubbling Under. The battle for that empty number ten spot was very close, with a new track from Kant Sleep and jazz singer Jordana Talsky's cover of the Alanis Morrisette classic coming very close to bumping Citrus Jam.

This week saw the release of some major new music, and we've got it. From the new release from Stacey Kent, we have her smooth cover of the A.C. Jobim classic, Photograph, a jazzhop track with a slightly bossa feel to it from lofi/chillhop artist Hylla, and finally, (we here took our time deciding which track to play) from the new Naoki Kenji album, Akatombo, and settled on the gentle sound of Floating Minds. And don't forget, Phigroa continues to grow in rotation with his new track, Headed Home.

So lots and lots of new music as we see the Summer fade into the chill of Autumn. And more news this week saw the announcement of a new album from Michael e about to drop. So we are in high anticipation of that.

Thanks for checking in, and tuning in. Thanks for supporting the station and the artists. You're keeping the music alive.

Also, let me just mention, tune in tonight for Koop Kooper's Cocktail Nation Sneak Preview at 18:00h Toronto time to start off the fun Saturday night programming. Eclectic and full of surprises, it's always a good listen.

Time to relax a little. Enjoy your weekend!

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 21 October 2017

What a glorious Saturday it is here!
Temp headed for 22, partly cloudy.  I could get used to Octobers this nice.

Welcome back to my little corner of the planet. A big shoutout to all of you faithful listeners. You are what keeps the music alive. Your word-of-mouth praise helps new fans tune in.

Christopher Goze still at number one! A great song and a great artist - no wonder youur votes are keeping him up there. Chillhop artist, .anxious. leaps into the second position, ahead of Cigarettes After Sex in third.

Some new music slowly creeping into rotation is now bubbling under. Toronto jazz chanteuese, Jordana Talsky, gives us a chilling rendition of the Alanis Morrisette classic. Ambient artist, Kant Sleep, releases a new (free download!) track to his Soundcloud page. And we have some new chillout from Citrus Jam.

Yesterday saw new albums unleashed to the world from Naoki Kenji and Stacey Kent. I'm sure that we'll be hearing from them here very soon.

In the meantime, enjoy this week's chart and be sure to spread the word of This is Lounge.

Thanks for staying tuned in and relaxed.

Stay chilled.

The Top Ten - week ending 14 October 2017

Welcome back to another weekend!

As we prepare for the coming of Autumn and all the lovely colours that it brings, it's nice to know that This is Lounge is there for your fireside relaxation times. Nothing like adding a little chill to the chill!

We've had a wonderful week here, despite the temperature drop by 15 degrees almost overnight. But this weekend looks promising with a mostly sunny forecast.

On to the Top Ten now..... Looks like the chillout sounds of Christopher Goze remain "atop the leader board", followed by Cigarettes After Sex (who put on a wonderful show here the other night - check out the review.) Phigroa rounds things out in third.

Looking father down the list, the chillhop sounds of .anxious. climb into fifth position, behind Lana Del Rey's Heroin.

Actress/musician/daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg, gives us the title track from her new album, Rest, settling in at number eight. We have some new chillout sounds from Five Seasons, as they also make the jump from Bubbling Under into the number ten spot.

Released earlier this week was a beautiful new track from Phigroa, called Headed Home. If you've been paying attention, it's being slowly introduced into rotation. No doubt it will be on the chart in no time.

Thank you so much for all your support - especially those financial ones. Like what you hear? Help support the station with a donation on a credit card through PayPal. Financially supporting the artists is certainly appreciated, as well. Through Bandcamp, iTunes, Beatport,....or your favourite download store.
