The Top Ten - week ending 28 May 2016

As another busy week comes to a close, we take some time to reflect. I hope the sun is shining in your world today.

Not a lot to say this week, so I'm going to get right to it.

Congrats to SAMBOX for hitting number one this week, knocking out Chris Standring. Thanks to your votes and those around here, the song broke through to it's present position. I'm sure that being the leadoff track in a recent Guido's Lounge Cafe mix didn't hurt things either.

Lanu also made significant gains this week, as all those fans of the Eighties pushed their track up. Newcomers Lemongrass and Benjamin Biolay continue their rise as well.

Welcome The Warheads once again with another track making the leap from Bubbling Under, with their song, Blue Venus.

Thanks for all your support. Thanks for supporting the artists.

The Top Ten - week ending 21 May 2016

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers!

First, a huge shoutout to everyone who has stuck with us through the host issues we've been having. My listenership continues to remain high, and you are listening longer! So whether your streaming us in a shop or a cafe or at work....maybe we're the station your clients listen to while on hold on your phones! Thanks for your support! Apologies to those that may now be shut out. At least you can keep up with New Releases right here. Click on the Subscribe button to stay in touch.

I would hope that for the most part, everyone listening has finally relinguished their winter coats with the breakthrough of Spring....or should we consider this the unofficial start of Summer? Here in Toronto, it's a long weekend in Canada, and the weather is certainly giving us what we want with sunshine and very warm temperatures in the 20's. Perfect lounging weather!

And what better music to accompany your weekend (and week!) than with the variety here at This is Lounge. Our Top Ten is chock-full of the best in chill and jazz. Thanks to your votes at www.thisislounge.com, you're helping to keep the charts alive.

Smooth Jazz guitarist, Chris Standring, remains atop of the chart this week, with two listener faves knocking at his door for supremacy. Phigroa  & ArnoB and SAMBOX hold the number two and three positions respectively.

SAMBOX's You're Beautiful continues its rise, as does Aussie singer, Lanu, with his Prefab Sprout cover,  When Love Breaks Down.

Chillout veterans, Lemongrass, and their song Something True, taken from their just released Beauty album have surprisingly moved quickly into the Top Ten. I think it's become a new fave around here at the station. As a matter of fact, be sure to preview the entire album. It's a beautiful collection, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to cast your votes if you agree.

Our Bubbling Under chart is a little shorter today as Giacomo Bondi and The Warheads remain poised for that leap to higher levels. Giacomo's wonderful reworking of a selection from The Beatles  catalogue infuses his jazz and lounge influences into these time-honoured tracks, breathing new life into them, giving us a different perspective on some old favourites. Great job, Giacomo! Be sure to check this out, on sale now a a super-reasonable price! (Click the link below) I hope you enjoy the Acapella Remix of Sun King that we've selected to play at the station.

The Warheads continue to pump out quality music, as this latest offering, Blue Venus, is no exception. Their modern alternative take on jazz only opens up the genre and it's sound.

Once again, I may sound like a broken record, but thank you so much for supporting the station and the artists. Maybe the artists won't have to work that extra hour at their day job because you bought their music from iTunes, or Amazon, or Juno. Thanks for keeping the music alive.

The Top Ten - week ending 14 May 2016

WE'RE BACK !!!!!!

As far as I know, anyway. Due to Sony's lawsuit against our host, Radionomy, for copyright infringment, the stations were all put in musical stasis until things got worked out.  From what I can gather, North America (where the suit is filed) has been blacked out from receiving any broadcasts. That's (kind of) the good news - All of you listeners in Europe, Russia, Australia, Southeast Asia, etc. should still be able to listen in. The bad news is Canadian and American listeners are shut out, at least until the lawsuit is resolved, I assume. That also means that I, being in Canada, cannot even listen to my own station!!! Sad, but true. Maybe I can convince them to release the player within my password protected page at their site. I'm sure that I'm not the only one in the same situation.

OK, that being said, we've been a little behind on our music. Between my continued home renovations and busy family life, it's a bit of a struggle to grab some time for the station as well as social media.

But, more so than social media, audio media is the most important. right? And by audio media, I mean of course, This is Lounge!

Thanks to all of you that continued to vote for your faves online. There is some new music from Cantoma and others that I still have to preview for play consideration, so bear with me as we continue to add some great new music. Meanwhile, here's the latest Top Ten for you all to enjoy.

Shoutout to SAMBOX, who now has two songs charting in The Top Ten from his latest release. We also welcome the return of Benjamin Biolay. As the new reigning Gainsbourg sucessor, he quickly climbs aboard at number nine with Le Débandade. Both tracks have seen a quick rise to the chart from Bubbling Under. Congrats to two wonderful French artists!

As I stated in another posting below, please let me know if you're not getting the station, or please tell me that you are! I would love to know if North American is the only one blacked out.

In my defence, I want to say, I always try to broadcast a "bought and paid-for" copy of a song, or at least gain the artists approval. This means Sony has nothing on me or others like me, but we're all sadly paying for it. That being said, let me reiterate the importance of supporting these artists through legitimate downloads. Keep the music alive! Enjoy. Peace.

This station is not available in your country

I'm not sure if this is happening in all the countries whree my listeners are, but this is the message that I get when I try logging onto This is Lounge - "This station is not available in your country".

It seems like Sony's lawsuit against Radionomy for copyright infringement has taken it's toll. Personally, I don't see all of us as copyright infringement against the artists. I see it as promotion for the artist! A listener hears the song on the radio and goes out and buys it! Sony should be paying us to play their artists!

So if you are a This is Lounge listener out there that is still receiving the show, PLEASE let me know - in the Comments below, or at www.thisilounge.com.

Do I continue broadcasting to those of you that can listen? The irony is that I must acheive a certain level of listening hours to stay on the air. If half the world can't listen, there goes my hours.

In the meantime, I shall continue to produce the playlists for whomever is listening.

Thanks.
