The Top Ten - week ending 30 April 2016

Happy Saturday, my fellow loungers! I hope the sun is shining in your little corner of the world.
Before I continue my yard renovation today, I awoke early to bring you The Top Ten on it's regular day.

Shoutout to Igor Gerzina, my Croatian Smooth Jazz friend, and the releases of the video for his new single, Eastern Magic. Scroll down below this article to watch and listen. It will be available at amazon.com and other digital retailers on June 1.

For a second week, Lapsley's Cliff remains atop the chart. Her haunting chilled sound has resonated with fans, as well as those of us here at the station. Chris Standring's Smooth Jazz guitar moves into number two, and Mode & Light round out the top three.

Phigroa & ArnoB take a slight slip, as the votes continue to keep them in the top five. Mr. Dylan scoots up to number five.

Out of all the Bubbling Under tracks, SAMBOX has made the biggest impact this week. The Smoking Mix of the title track to his new release, Guest Star, leapfrogged over the others to take it's place at number ten.

Speaking of Bubbling Under, the list is becoming a lttle crowded as two more tracks get added. Station fave, Benjamin Biolay, released his new album last week. Entitled Palermo Hollywood, you will have heard Le Débandade over the station airwaves the last few days. He's quickly becoming the new Gainsbourg, in my humble estimation.

Big thanks to The Warheads for Blue Venus. Their alt-jazz sound has a modern twist to those smoky nightclub sounds of the past.

Of course, your support of these artists is greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening, and don't forget to vote for your favourite Top Ten song at www.thisislounge.com.

The Top Ten - week ending 23 April 2016

A million apologies to anyone who came looking Saturday for The Top Ten. With the nicer weather, I have to blame the missus and her insistance that we renovate the "lounge area" in our yard. Long overdue for a refresh, now is the time to work on it before the temperatures rise to the mid-20's.

Needless to say, between that and everything else life throws at me, I haven't had a chance to get to this.

But, now I am here and here is this week's Top Ten!

Number one this week goes out to Lapsley. Her song, Cliff, has been a popular choice, both here around the station and from you listeners. Phigroa & ArnoB continue to stay up there at number two, while Sanjay Chitale slips down to number three.

Some "fresh blood" joins the ranks, as Bob Dylan and Lanu make the leap from Bubbling Under.

And welcome SAMBOX, as we enter two new songs onto the playlist. Hope you've been enjoying them.

Please! stop on over to www.thisislounge.com and vote for your favourites!

Well, you've waited long enough....

The Top Ten - week ending 16 April 2016

After a few false starts it appears that Sring has finally sprung in my little corner of the world! With a weekend forecast heading towards 20C tomorrow, it's a perfect chance to start working on that summer oasis. Whether it be a backyard patio, a rooftop terrace, or a condo balcony, now's the time to prepare that Summer chillout spot.....accompanied, of course, by the soothing sounds of This is Lounge!

We've had so much new music joining our airwaves this week, making our Bubbling Under list positively bubbling over with great new sounds. This week marked the release from our friend SAMBOX. (Scroll down in the blog for my announcement of the release of Guest Star.) A wonderfully creative collection, I'm sure that you'll agree that we could not choose just one track to play. So tune in and listen for the Smoking Mix of the title track and the wonderfully seductive, You're Beautiful.

Congratulations are in order for Sanjay Chitale & Sandeep Chowta's Buddhalicious track, Anu, as it leap frogs into the number one spot this week. This leaves Phigroa and ORDOG to round up the top three.

Soundcloud discovery, Mode & Light, jump into the fray at number nine, with their cover of Air's Highschool Lover

I'm always accused of rambling on, so this week, I shall keep it short. I am so grateful for your support as a listener. Not only am I competing with every other radio station, but there's also Spotify and Apple Music to contend with. Thanks for taking the time to tune in.

Thanks for supporting the artists we play.

New Sambox Released Today

After a prolonged countdown on Facebook, the day has finally arrived! Samuel Pineau (aka Sambox)  announces the release of Guest Star on Concorde Avenue, a collection of 11 new chillout tracks, to add to his CV.

After studying classical music, his interests and influences followed a more modern path. Like many musicians, ambient and chill are a logical extension from classical composers such as Debussy. Consequently, his compositions have been included on numerous collections on labels such as George V, Ministry of Sound, and the Café Solaire series.

I'm sure that after being seduced by the promo, you'll want to take in the album in it's entirety. Available at iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.

Stay tuned to This is Lounge for music from Guest Star!

The Top Ten - week ending 9 April 2016

Welcome fellow loungers!

Like all of you, the weekend can't seem to come soon enough. It's a time to stop and take a breath from the hectic pace of the past five days. In other words, it's time to chillout.

We here at This is Lounge know a thing or two about chilling out, which is why you tune in.  So, sit back and relax and check out the smooth vibes eminating from your preferred digital devices, and enjoy!

I know a few people are going to be pleased with our new number one this week. First, let me say, thanks to everyone for taking the time to vote for their favourite song at www.thisislounge.com. Listener feedback like this is always welcome....and leave a Comment, if you are so inclined! We'd love to hear from you!

So, back to number one....This week, we see the inimitable guitar and sax duo, Phigroa & ArnoB, slide into the coveted spot with Cologne, a song that could be about a city in Germany or the scent of a woman. Perhaps it is both! Maybe it's best left up to the listener to interpret. Congrats, Phil!

The jazzy sampling of Ordog's Nothing Compares moves in behind at second place, followed by the worldly hybrid of Sanjay Chitale & Sandeep Chowta with Anu. Sadly, Peter Pearson had to relinguish his hold on the top spot, but he still commands a strong prescence in the list, at number four.

As we see Jill Barber slip just below the tenth position, Chris Standring's new Magic Carpet Ride, fies into the Top Ten at number nine. His Smooth Jazz guitar sound is a welcome addition, which I'm sure you'll agree.

Bubblibg Under this week is extra special. The week saw the release of a single by the legendary Bob Dylan. Like many artists in the past, this album, Fallen Angels, is a labour of love tribute to some amazing artists' best works. The single being released is Melancholy Mood, a song made famous by the Chairman of The Board, Mr. Frank Sinatra. Bob's given it a more bluesy arrangement, which I'm sure you'll agree, works just fine, and works just fine on the playlist here. Watch for Bob to make a hasty rise on the chart!

This week has also seen some wonderful new ambient tracks joining our list. Mined from the pages of Soundcloud, our team gets very excited when discovering what lies within that site. Tom O'Brien, a resident of the Gold Coast in Australia, records under the name Raine, and a few weeks ago posted Mind. Field recordings mix with soft synths and the sample of a woman's romantic plea to bring us a truly chilled ambient experience.

This week also finds a song that seems like it plays shorter than the time it takes to say the title! Based in Rennes, France, in love with a ghost is not afraid to incorporate a sentence or a phrase as a song title. We see that, this week, with the recently released, all in lower case, we've never met but, can we have a coffee or something. Enjoy, and oh yes, it's a free download!

As usual, thanks for all the support here at the station AND of all the artists.

The Top Ten - week ending 2 April 2016

Happy Saturday all my fellow loungers. I hope that you're taking some time out of your hectic schedule for a little "Me Time", which I would hope would include some time at This is Lounge.

Saturdays are a different kind of animal. Here at the station, the music evolves and changes, and a sneak preview of Koop Kooper's Cocktail Nation show at 18:00/6:00 pm ET kicks off a slight change of programming in the night - perhaps a little more upbeat, a little more diverse. Tune in tonight for something more than just lounge....

Don't forget that you can make a difference here - head on over to thisislounge.com and vote for your favourite song in the Top Ten and Bubbling Under. Your vote could be the one that helps make it rocket to the top!!!

That being said, I'm pleased to announce that Peter Pearson's As Twilight Falls has retained his throne this week atop the list. Congrats to Peter, and thanks to everyone who voted!

Another pleasant surprise is seeing the rise of Phigroa & ArnoB's Cologne to number two. Their blend of ambient, smooth jazz, downtempo, and funk has appealed to your ears and rewarded us with your votes.

Moving into the third position is indie favourite and Soundcloud discovery, ORDOG. His retro flavoured Nothing Compares mixes up the playlist with a cool, old school jazz sample and drum beat, with a smidgen of hip-hop. This guy has some very cool and creative ideas going on.

As we lose a couple below the tenth position, we see a couple of new Bubbling Under tracks rise up. We can finally congratulate Spookyfish, as they finally made the jump. The slow burn of appreciation has been rewarded. Feel You really does deserve to be there. Thanks to everyone who has supported them. Newcomer, Lapsley, has been a winner between everyone at the station and your votes, as she leapfrogs in the seventh position. Her dream pop chill sound is infectious, and Cliff is a nice fit here.

In addition to Mode & Light and Chris Standring's latest, we go down under to Melbourne, Australia, for a track from Lanu's latest release, The Double Sunset - given a 5 out of 5 review by the New Zealand Herald. His retro spin on songs can best be described as exotica rock - taking the influences of artists like Martin Denny, and incorporating them into a more modern sound. Helping him out on the Prefab Sprout cover of their 1988 hit, When Love Breaks Down, is the wonderful Aussie songstress, Megan Washington. Their chilled down version is a wonderful addition to the playlist. If you like it, vote for it!

All of these wonderful artists thank you for your support. Purchasing their music through Band Camp, iTunes, Amazon, or even Soundcloud links, you are helping in the future of music.

Thanks for supporting the artists AND the station. Music is life. Peace.
